Black Walnut, Curly Maple, Holly

Sometimes a piece of wood catches my eye and I buy it, while not knowing what I will use it for. This thick piece of walnut with a live edge which makes up the two front panels was one of those purchases. It sat in my shop for about a year until I came up with the idea of having frame and panel doors with an “open” look while maintaining the natural contour of this beautiful piece.

Curly Maple Interior: The cabinet’s interior is lined with shop-sawn curly maple veneer, adding lightness and contrast. The figured maple not only brightens the space but introduces a subtle shimmer that complements the walnut exterior.

Exposed Joinery on the Stand: The base stand is built using traditional through mortise and tenon joinery, left proudly exposed to celebrate the craftsmanship of the piece.

Function Meets Art: Designed to elevate and highlight whatever it holds—artwork, ceramics, books, or collectibles—this cabinet is as much a sculptural statement as it is functional furniture.
