I sometimes take design elements from other woodworker’s pieces who I respect and incorporate them into my own design. This design is based on a desk built by Chris Gouchnor, which functions as both a refined writing desk and storage piece.

Curved Front Drawers with half blind dovetails: The sweeping curve of the desk front houses a set of drawers, each seamlessly integrated into the arc. Cutting the half-blind dovetails for these uniquely angled drawers—where acute and obtuse angles meet—was a challenge to ensure strength without compromising the flowing silhouette.

Turned Legs with Abalone Inlay: Turned legs bring a classic elegance, each crowned with an abalone inlay at the top—adding a touch of detail that catches the light and the eye.

Beading Profile: The underside edge of the top is shaped with a custom scratch stock to form a subtle half-round profile, adding hand-tooled refinement to the overall form.
